The Ethical Culture Society of Westchester will host this week. Bart Worden, Leader of the Westchester Society and also Executive Director of the American Ethical Union, will speak.

Ethical Humanism takes a positive approach to life and living. It begins with appreciation of the inherent qualities of others and ourselves and proceeds with acknowledgement and cultivation of those qualities. Hence the oft quoted “Golden Rule”: Act so as to elicit the best of others and in so doing elicit the best of oneself as well. It is through the affirmation of the good in others and in ourselves that we develop and grow as ethical beings. Affirmation can be a tricky tool, though. We can become overly attached to affirmations that lead to dysfunction or to living a fantasy that, in the end, does not increase the good in life. This address by Bart Worden will explore some of the benefits and risks of affirmations and consider ways to affirm our best ethical qualities.

Rather than RYSEC’s usual gathering time from 11-11:15, we’ll start promptly with the program at 11 am.

Contributions to “Sunday Sharing” during August 2021 are shared between RYSEC and this month’s sharing partner: August 2021 Sharing of Responsibility
