Most weeks, voluntary donations are split between the work of the Society and an organization whose work in the world honors human worth.

You’ve heard of the story of Stone Soup?  If not, you’ll hear it this week. Our modernized version is called Stone Salad. We’ll celebrate generosity together, even when we can’t be in the same space for our annual pot-luck salad.  We can do this with social distancing, too!

Stone SaladWhat can you share?  An illustration or a stone — and a word!  See below for details.

11 a.m. is gathering time, to meet and greet one another and make preparations together.  We start the formal program at 11:15.  It will just be a reading of the two stories, a little music appropriate for all ages, and the sharing of words, so all ages are invited to attend!  Zoom link is included below.

What to Bring?

An Illustration!

If you or children in your family would like to illustrate a part of our add-on Stone Salad story, please contact our Leader, Jone Johnson Lewis, by November 5 and she’ll assign you part of the story to illustrate.  Please RETURN your illustration — preferably by sending a photograph of it in email — by November 16.  That will give us enough time to find replacements for illustrations not completed.

  • What kind of illustration?  It can be a drawing, a collage, some graphic arts done on the computer, anything visual.
  • It’s best to use an 8.5×11 piece of paper turned horizontally (so it’s wide, rather than tall).
  • If you don’t have Jone’s email address use the online form to ask her for it.  Or inquire at office@rysec.org.

A Stone!

On any of the days between Sunday, November 15, and Friday, November 20, bring a stone (from your yard? from your travels?) to the Society and place it near the sign near the front door.  We’ll see a picture of the many stones on Sunday. And pick up a special stone from near the TAKE ONE sign, also near the front door those same days.  Remember if you’re there at the same time as someone else, wear a mask and keep a safe social distance.

A Word!

We’ll ask each of those participating to share a word that they bring, symbolizing their hopes for the community’s future.  Don’t worry if someone else already said the word you bring — that some of us agree is a positive thing!  We’ll create a word cloud out of those words, and use it to remember the message of Stone Salad: Bring what you’ve got, everyone’s got something to share, nothing is too small.
