Opening to Joy

The holidays that dominate December tend to emphasize joy.  But joy isn’t easy for everyone.  How is joy related to living the ethical life?  Here is what Felix Adler, founder of the first Ethical Society, said about ethical living and joy:

“They who make this creative ethical task their object will gain courage to meet life greatly, whatever its exigencies, to persist in their endeavors, despite endless failures and in contempt of every specious success; to discover a final happiness in life’s joys, and to see the star of hope and faith beyond life’s sorrows.” – Felix Adler

It’s especially important in troubling times to savor life’s joys, even as we work to make a better world and a better life.  One might even say it’s a revolutionary act to make sure that there’s some joy in our lives.  We’ll consider some ways to open ourselves to more joy in our lives.

RYSEC Leader Jone Johnson Lewis will be speaking from the Meeting House.

We will have gathering time in-person and on Zoom from 11-11:15 to socialize a bit, then begin promptly at 11:15 am ET.  We will try to end by 12:15, reducing in-meeting participation time.  In-person socializing time (with social distancing and masking) will be until 12:45 pm, the Zoom room will be open until 12:45 pm for socializing.

Ethics for Children is in-person, 10am - 11am with supervised play until 12:15pm, and requires in-person registration.

Contributions to "Sunday Sharing" are shared between RYSEC and this month's sharing partner.  Read more and contribute:
