Nonviolence and Gun Safety

Sponsored by the Ethical Action Committee of the American Ethical Union (AEU) and co-sponsored by a number of Societies within the AEU, this online forum will include an examination of the phenomenon of mass shootings in America and an urgent call to implement evidence-based strategies to stop these tragedies.  Featured is Sharon Stanley of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and Moms Demand Action.

This Salon is another follow up to the AEU 2021 resolution Renewal of Commitment to a Culture of Peace. AEU and the Riverdale-Yonkers Society have a long history of opposing violence and supporting peace.

Guest Speaker: Sharon Stanley, Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and Moms Demand Action, is a retired New York City special education teacher. “Christopher and I just joined in 1995, we were married in 1996, by Dr. David Harmon, one of our EHSLI officiants. Our child, Gabe, was born in 1998 and we are so proud to call him a ‘first generation Ethical Humanist!’” She joined “Moms Demand Action” in 2018, right after the Parkland shooting, and has been advocating for sensible gun legislation ever since.
