Belonging as a Way of Being

Can a person embody Belonging? What about the ways they decorate their spaces, or their clothes? Whose eyes do they start to see the world, and themselves, through? Christian Hayden will explore these questions and their implications to make the case that how we live our lives gives messages about our openness to the other, our capacity to welcome the exiled and be healers of a broken world.

We’ll also have a brief ceremony at the end of the program, honoring International Peace Day.

Christian Hayden, a new member of the RYSEC Leader team, is our presenter.  He is a newly-certified Ethical Culture Leader and has been active with both the Philadelphia Ethical Society and the Future of Ethical Societies, the young adult group that is part of the larger Ethical movement.  He has spoken at RYSEC a number of times before, including about his year in Ghana and about his photography.  Come welcome Christian to RYSEC!

Sunday Sharing

Contributions to "Sunday Sharing" are shared between RYSEC and this month's sharing partner as we try to contribute to making a more humane world.  This month, we focus on an organization that represents community members whose status as 'belonging here' is constantly under challenge.

In-Person and Zoom

We are hopeful this program can be both in-person and on Zoom, but we may change plans depending on the COVID-19 pandemic risk levels for hospital patients with COVID.

We begin the program promptly at 10:30 am ET, with gathering time from 10:15 both in-person and on Zoom.  We will try to end by noon. In-person social hour begins at noon. You're welcome to bring some food to share during social time. The Zoom room will be open until 12:30 for socializing.

Refrain from attending any in-person meeting if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or are testing positive. We recommend vaccinations and boosters (over age 5) and request, but don't require, a mask covering mouth and nose when inside.  Please respect the needs of others and yourself for social distance (air hugs and air handshakes unless you KNOW the other person is comfortable otherwise). We ask that you sanitize your hands, especially before handling any shared food or drink, and try to bring individual servings (or use the provided 3 oz cups to divide what you bring) if you're bringing food to share, to minimize food handling.

Ethics for Children: Our in-person children's program has resumed as of September, 2022 (also subject to checking COVID-19 hospitalization levels).
