Assuming Good Intentions

In order to bring out the best in others (and thus in ourselves), we need to believe that the others HAVE a best to bring out! One of the first steps towards this, in any relationship, is to assume good intentions on the part of that person. Yes, there are those who manipulate others, whose “good intentions” are for their own gain only. We don’t lose anything by starting with that assumption, and we gain quite a bit. We can still protect our boundaries and we can still hold people accountable for harmful impact.

Often, even actions that produce harm to others were done with good motivations on the part of the do-er. We will be more likely to influence change if we understand their intention.

RYSEC Leader Jone Johnson Lewis will reflect on how this initial assumption, in the context of healthy boundaries, helps us live more ethically, in our personal relationships and in social justice work.

Meeting Location

This Sunday is Zoom-only for the platform program. We begin the program promptly at 10:30 am ET, with gathering time from 10:15.  We will try to end by 11:30.  The Zoom room will be open until noon for socializing.

Ethics for Children is in-person, 10:30-11:30 am with supervised play until noon, and requires in-person registration. If we need to make last-minute changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will email you via whatever email we have on record or that you use for the RSVP below.

Contributions to "Sunday Sharing" are shared between RYSEC and this month's sharing partner.  Read more and contribute:

Attending in Person

Registration for in-person attendance is open from the previous Sunday. Registration closes at 5 pm Saturday for Ethics for Children participation to be sure we're adequately staffed, and at 5pm for adults attending the Platform Meeting, which gives us time to notify people if there are last-minute changes.

Proof of vaccination (at least first dose) is required if attendee is 5 or older. Also required: mask while indoors, sanitize hands, respect social distance.
