Reflect, Share, and Act for a Fair and Just World
Are you looking for support to help step up your ethical advocacy and activism? Looking for company as you make some additional small steps each week to make a difference in the world?
Many of the public expressions of Ethical Culture values exist only so long as there are people actively advocating for their continued existence. And there are many ways to be involved in maintaining and extending institutions and ideas that are designed to bring out the best, the human worth, in every person.
From bringing ethical values to our families and communities, to helping build local institutions and programs, to cooperating in coalitions for those advocating for social change, there are many ways that even an individual or a small Ethical Culture Society can be part of making a real difference in the world.
Most Thursdays (check schedule below), as long as there’s interest, we’ll open the doors of the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture on Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:00 to host an early evening focus on do-able ethical advocacy. Sometimes we’ll make signs, sometimes we’ll make phone calls, sometimes we’ll write letters or emails. We’ll also have some time to be together, and listen to each others’ stories. We’ll reflect on what we’ve done during the week, and we’ll each consider whether we want to make new commitments for the following week. We’ll learn some skills and ideas. We’ll also remember to spend some time on “self-care” which is often best done in community.
Drop in anytime from 4:30 to 7:00 on the Thursdays scheduled below. Stay as short or as long as you like. Children are welcome, as long as you’re willing to keep an eye on your own children (we don’t have formal child care available, but we’ll have some toys and books, crayons and drawing paper, and, on weeks we’re lucky enough to have a willing organizer, some planned activities for kids).
We are not a partisan organization, but we can take a stand on issues. We will stand up to protect civil liberties, human rights, and policies that support the dignity of all Americans. Join the dialogue and work with us to create a more ethical world!
