People of color are victimized by global warming, as the “first and worst.” This was brought home most dramatically after the destruction wrought by hurricanes Katrina and Sandy especially in New Orleans and New York City’s Rockaways . But courageous sisters and brothers of color are not primarily victims. Rather, they are leaders in the vital struggle against the lethal stranglehold of the profit-mongers of fossil fuel. From the South Bronx, through Harlem, to Standing Rock, those with more privilege are continually challenged to follow the leadership of frontline communities in the life-and-death work needed to reverse environmental destruction.
